Dance Fundamentals for Aerialists

When it comes to dance, aerialists have unique needs. There isn’t much use for fancy footwork when your body is in the air, but what about arm styling? – leg extensions? – spin tolerance? These are useful tools to have in your aerial toolkit. Through both static & traveling exercises, and basic choreographed sequences, this class also addresses:

  •  balance
  •  foot articulation
  •  finding complimentary shapes
  • increased body awareness
  • mobility & flexibility
  • proper posture and alignment

No previous dance or aerial experience required.

Aerial Partnering: Conditioning and Basics:

This class is about building strength and confidence higher off the ground and learning how to hold/support others in the air. Due to the taller nature of two bodies, we must place ourselves higher off the ground, in this class we will focus on momentum mechanics such as different styles of beats and pullovers in the air. We will also work on a variety of fabric and trapeze skills that are applicable to bases and fliers alike such as different entries to cross back straddle, catchers, and s-lock. We will discuss body positioning and shapes associated with partnering and some fundamental duo drills with your fellow students. This drills focused class is perfect for anyone looking to build strength and confidence and get a taste for what it’s like to work with a partner.
