Circus and burlesque share a rich history. Throughout the late 19th century, burlesque performers were frequently featured in the circus. So the art of burlesque and the spectacle of aerial acrobatics are a time-tested match.
Using the trapeze, Intro to Aerial Burlesque will give students a taste of basic striptease techniques. Instruction will begin on the ground, and then transition to applying those same techniques in the air. This class will also touch on the poise, and style intrinsic to burlesque.
Prerequisites: Level 1B and above (any apparatus). Students must be able to execute the following without assistance: getting knees to the bar, getting hips to the bar, transitioning to seated, transitioning to standing, basic standing poses.
Specific trapeze skills useful to know: Catcher’s, Coffin, Gazelle, Man in the Moon, Scissor Sit, Armpit Hang (from standing on the bar with arms crossed in front)
An Important Note About Attire: Due to the shared nature of our studio space, any body parts you would keep covered in a standard aerial class need to be kept covered in this class as well. Please have a fitted foundation layer underneath any clothing you intend to take off. Examples of a foundation layer are: leotard and tights/leggings; unitard (shorty or full length); sports bra/tank and leggings.
Additional Clothing Items to Bring
